Microsoft Exchange team announced that they will be soon launching the Exchange server 2019. This official announcement was made at the conference of Ignite 2017. This post is published to make followers aware from Exchange Server 2019 Features and new technical ideas behind its release.

The preview of New MS Exchange 2019 version will be availed sometime in mid of the year 2018. Its release is targeted to be done in second half of 2018. Microsoft team targets to bring out a typical cadence for the Exchange server with RTM of new editions in every three year. For example, Exchange 2016 arrived in late of 2015, Exchange 2013 in late 2012 year, and Exchange 2010 in the late 2009.

Programming of this new on-premises Exchange server version is followed with a blueprint of latest Exchange Server 2019 Features that first arrives in Exchange online and then, make the direction to clients working on on-premises environment via cumulative updates. At this stage, Microsoft have not yet made any particular announcement that stops us from spreading the news regarding Exchange 2019 version . The predictions are dependent upon the following factors:

  • Below image, which was delivered by Microsoft

  • Observation of MS Exchange release history dates
  • Feasibility to make changes in cloud to on-premises

Exchange Server 2019 Features : Expected to be Included

The features explained here are the assumptions made by Exchange experts around the world. They assume that these updates could be there in upcoming version of the on-premises Exchange server. So, let us take a read out on them:

  • The MS Exchange 2019 version minimizes the requirement of operating system. Along with this, it also excludes all the files that are out of the mainstream support from Active directory.
  • The deprecated features of Exchange 2016 get completely eliminated in the version 2019. This states that the RPC-over-HTTP end might get replaced by the MAPIhttp protocol. It is so because this protocol gets easily supported by all MS Outlook email clients, which exists in mainstream. In current scenario, there is no requirement of retaining RPC-over-HTTP. Talking from the server end, this means that “Outlook Anywhere” should be removed from configurable Client Access namespace.
  • The development team squeezes more improvements in the performance of database engine. There was the improvement in the IOPS storage of Exchange 2016 and even in the searching performance. Exchange 2016 upgraded maximum hardware spec, which can be scaled as an individual server up. There is no doubt in stating the line that Microsoft gives its best in improving things as per administrators demand and need.
  • MS Office 2013 might be out of the mainstream support in the RTM of MS Exchange Server 2019 version . Hopefully, Office 2019 is not going to be released before this Exchange version so, it might be possible that developers retain Outlook 2013 support.
  • There should be no change in architecture of the server role. Here, all things are perfect and need no modifications to be done in any aspect.
  • Microsoft Outlook on web gets updated to the current user experience as of the Exchange online.
Chances are there that public folder scalability improves but, feature-wise they remain same for long.
  • We expect that challenges of cross-premises in hybrid deployment continues improving, as always.
After observing the Exchange 2013 and 2016 capability, we assume that migration will be more simple in this version as well.

Thing Not to be Included At All

Experts say that they do not want features of cross-service O365 collaboration to be appended with on-premises clients. It will be good to think of an Office 365 groups to come in Exchange 2019 version but, it seems to be impossible. It is so because these groups rely only on the cloud services. Even if it became possible then, having the Groups on-premises and not having any benefit in development gives no reason of its presence. So, it is better to keep Groups on cloud for its beneficial use.

Last Few Line

The news of Microsoft Exchange 2019 version shows that the team is committed towards serving the sizeable customer base of on-premise. This can be seen by continuously developing and shipping the on-premises server applications because continuous innovations are made in the cloud. Well, this was all the information that we got regarding Exchange Server 2019 Features and ideas. Let’s see what comes and does that meet expert’s range of expectations or not!!
